Johnny Torrio's Gangland
from "Johnny Torrio: First of the Gang Lords." Jack McPhaul. Arlington House. New Rochelle, N.Y. 1970 p.
Chicago has always been divided up into gang turf. Here is a map of Chicago's major Italian and Irish gangs.
Burnham, south of Chicago, was the first place run by the Torrio-Capone gang as a safe haven for their vice empire.
Few accounts discuss the relationship of the Italian gangs to the
African American gangs, but apparently the Black Belt vice areas were
restricted to prostitution and policy, and kept out of bootlegging during
Prohibition on Capones' orders.
