Information from this website, where not specifically noted, are from the People's Law Office files on the 108 torture cases, the University of Chicago's Torture Archive, Northwestern Univesity's Bluhm Legal Clinic, and John Conroy's articles on Jon Burge in the Chicago Reader.

Whenever possible, specific citations were indicated in the text, although the sheer amount of information on the hundreds of Chicago police and political officials who knew about and were silent or defended the 64 torturers made it clumsy to document each peice of evidence.

Unfortunately, the extent of the conspiracy to cover up torture has gone beyond what even we believed as we began this project in January of 2011.

This research began as a group research project at the University of Illinois Chicago's Criminology, Law, & Justice 394, the history of gangs in Chicago.
