Bobby was always a peacemaker. He met with Dr. Martin Luther King when King moved into Lawndale just a block away from the CVL headquarters. He and other CVL laeader marched with Dr. King in Gage Park when he was attacked by a racist mob. In the 1966 riots, Bobby was out on the streets calling for peace. After Dr. King's assassination, Bobby, the CVL, and other Chicago gangs took to the streets to quiet things down. The CVL wrote a leaflet that Bobby and the CVL passed out in the community. .

Seeing the destruction caused by the riots, Bobby and the CVL called meetings between the gangs. The CVL saw the opportunity to talk about the need for peace in the community between gangs.
