Lawndale produced many champions. One, Chuck Spruell, a close friend of Bobby Gore, became a professional boxer after his Golden Gloves title.

While many people consider gang members "losers" and people with no talent, the Conservative Vice Lords and the young people that hung out with them were some of Chicago's most talented young men and women.

Chuck has just retired after 31 years as a mental health technician. He still can be found on the westside in the Lawndale area and has remained friends with Bobby Gore.
