|
The forties and fifties marked a vast increase in black po;ulation in Chicago, as well as growing numbers of Puerto Ricans and Mexicans. Arnold Hirsch calls these years the "era of hidden violence" since white riots and terrorist boming greeting blacks as they moved into white areas. A west size ghetto began to grow and racial tensions sizzled. The Outfit directed heroin to the black and Lation communities and, as usual, were protected by police. The size of an increasingly angry black population, particularly its youth, meant explosions were ahead.
